  • Course Assistant Job Description (CA)

    CAs do not need previous EN120 experience. CAs will attend and help with classes, help with work outside of class, and attend weekly meetings with the course directors, for a total of 2.5-3 hours/week. They should be enthusiastic students with some leadership skills. CAs will be working with 2-3 groups of 4-5 freshmen at a time in an informal class environment, and will occasionally give small presentations in front of the class. CAs will also encourage and motivate the freshmen, as well as answer any questions freshmen may have about the School of Engineering.


    Course Director Job Description (CD)

    Previous EN120 experience is preferred, but not necessary. This is a two year position. First year CDs will be assigned to one of three positions. Specific duties include:

    Administrative: Reserving rooms, arranging meetings, and providing technical support (website).
    Personnel: Preparing and reviewing timesheets, verifying hours and payment, serve as main liaison with course assistants and administration.
    Assistant Project: Working with the second year Project course director to design, create, and implement projects throughout the course.

    Minimal work will be required during spring semester to prepare for the course in the fall. All course directors have three weekly meetings one with the other course directors, one with the course assistants, and one with the School of Engineering staff. They will also direct one section of the class each week with one other course director. Usually, course directors work 5-12 hours/week.
